Instructor Biog – Nick Clague

Nick started playing polo with some friends when he was 16. He quickly became addicted and so managed to strike a bargain with his father that he would stay to do his exams provided he could attend Millfield School as it offered polo within its curriculum!
After leaving Millfield in 2005, Nick was initially based at Cowdray working for Alan Kent, playing with him at 8-goal level before being ‘talent spotted’ and winning an ‘overseas work experience’ bursary to Argentina based with Robert Graham of the HPA.
On returning back to the UK for the start of the 2006 season, Nick secured himself the tough role of assistant polo manger at Sussex Polo. Nick’s handicap rapidly going up from -1 to 1-Goal by the start of the 2007 season. In August 2006, Nick and Sussex Polo team-mates Harry Tucker, Jimmy Mulligan and Pato Furlong scooped the coveted HPA Under 21 Cup before returning to Argentina for the winter season.
2007 saw Nick qualify as an HPA Club Instructor and he spent the season teaching, and playing professionally as well as becoming the face for Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex Polo Trophy. Many patrons and teams had successes throughout the summer with Nick’s assistance but on a personal level he had the notable achievement of winning the Pony Club Gannon Championships before heading off to the hotter climes of Dubai to play professionally for the winter.
Nick spent most of 2008 playing professionally with patrons from the club before again flying out to Robert Graham’s estancia for the winter season, returning to start 2009 with his new handicap of 2-Goals.
