About Us
The Sussex Polo Club is situated high up on the Surrey/Sussex borders in the picturesque village of Rowfant just 35 miles from central London and 8 miles from Gatwick. Located a 10 minute drive from Junction 10 of the M23, it is conveniently situated within easy reach of neighboring Cowdray Park, Knepp Castle, Hickstead and Hurtwood Park polo clubs.
“Competitive polo at competitive prices!”
The club was formed in 2002 by Duane and Sallie Anne Lent after a family holiday to a polo ranch in Argentina inspired them to try and recreate the more informal and relaxed atmosphere they found there combined with the competitive farm polo that Argentina is so famous for. They wanted to encourage and build a new style of polo community that is more inclusive in a sport that has historically been perceived as exclusive to the large majority. Thus the club’s motto: ‘More new blood, less blue blood!’
The club welcomes new members at any point throughout the season and is perceived as the true home of low goal polo in the south east guiding and inspiring both new and novice players in their polo adventure.
Private or group polo lessons for adults suitable for riders and non riders alike are available from May to September, including corporate polo groups and stag & hen parties. In line with our encompassing ethos, children from six years old are encouraged to play polo. Regular training sessions run by the Old Surrey and Burstow branch of the pony club are hosted at the club on Friday evenings and during school holidays.
Sussex Polo Club is now one of the fastest growing clubs in the UK. In 2005 Sussex Polo was joined by a like minded polo enthusiast and IT entrepreneur Nick Claxson, who joined the club as a Director and has provided valuable support to take the club to the next level. The club now boasts the following facilities: Four sanded and irrigated grounds, two of which are full size and boarded. Over 300 acres of grazing, a mobile clubhouse and licensed bar, four resident club professionals plus two HPA qualified instructors. There are over 60 playing members and numerous schoolmaster polo ponies and experienced grooms to support the member’s needs.
